Highland Woodworking Accessibility Evaluation
This project came up during my Accessibility Evaluation course. Several sites were offered to us to evaluate. Since woodworking is a hobby of mine, I chose this site.
The project began with a proposal that spoke to general deficiencies that are easily seen by the average visitor. This evaluation took that proposal a step farther by processing it through SortSite’s site evaluation software. This focused the results on what was discovered pertinent to WCAG Level A and AA criteria from the home page, a search results page, and a product page.
The next step of the evaluation used a manual inspection of the pages through methods such as ALT tags, etc. The final evaluation was an experience walkthrough that involved assuming the role of a visitor with low vision capabilities, who would use magnification or zooming functions, and then someone who only uses a keyboard rather than a mouse or trackpad to navigate.
Aside from regular email updates to the “stakeholders”, the final step involved analyzing the findings, synthesizing them into tangible information in a report, then submitting it with final recommendations.
